Chelsea reportedly may be able to seize an advantage in the race to sign Harry Kane this summer by offering a more feasible player-plus-cash swap deal.

Kane is understood to have told Spurs he wants to leave following their failure to win trophies while also facing another season outside the Champions League.

The Blues are known to be on the lookout for a new striker and have been linked with a move for Tottenham’s star man, as well as Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski.

Manchester City currently remain favourites in the Kane transfer saga, though.Pep Guardiola’s men are also seeking new attackers this summer with Kane and Jack Grealish their top targets.

It was expected that Daniel Levy would favour a deal with Man City, rather than the possibility of selling to Spurs’ bitter London rivals.

However, the latest report from The Athletic suggests that Chelsea could claim pole position to secure his signature with a swap deal.

It’s claimed that, despite their deep pockets, there are some doubts City will pay what is required to bring Kane to the Etihad, with Levy putting a £150million price tag on the striker.

A player-plus-cash swap deal has reportedly been discussed between Spurs and City, however there are complications to this.

Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling, Aymeric Laporte and Riyad Mahrez are potential swap options, though these players are all on sizeable salaries that Tottenham likely wouldn’t want to match.

There is also the possibility that they simply would not want to leave City for Spurs.Elsewhere though, Chelsea are of course eyeing Haaland as their top target, seemingly prioritising the Norwegian star ahead of Kane.

The Blues are understood to have proposed a player-plus-cash swap deal to Dortmund, involving either Abraham or Callum Hudson-Odoi, but BVB have batted this away and are insistent that they intend to keep the Norwegian.

talkSPORT has been told talk of a possible £150million transfer is no joke, with Roman Abramovich ‘giving the go-ahead’ for the stunning move.

Chelsea appear to be the only chasing club willing to pay the cash needed to land Haaland this summer, before the European transfer market goes into a frenzy over the goal machine striker next year.

Haaland’s Dortmund contract features a release clause that will come into effect next summer, which would make the 20-year-old available for around £65m
