Chelsea are preparing to submit a new bid for Romelu Lukaku, one which could tempt Inter into selling their star striker.

Thomas Tuchel is keen to sign an upgrade on his current forward options and has turned his attentions to the Belgium international with Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland seemingly out of reach.

Lukaku joined Chelsea as a teenager from Anderlecht, but failed to make the grade at first team level, making just 10 Premier League appearances before he joined Everton on a permanent deal having impressed while on loan at Goodison Park.

A move to Manchester United followed in the summer of 2017, but he struggled for consistency under both Jose Mourino and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but has resurrected his career in Italy, particularly since the arrival of Antonio Conte at San Siro.

Inter’s dire financial situation, which has already forced them to sanction the sale of Achraf Hakimi to PSG this summer, means they may find Chelsea’s latest offer for Lukaku too good to turn down.

Chelsea have already failed with an €100million offer which also included Marcos Alonso in part exchange. Inter dismissed that bid, but Sky Italy claim they could cave should the Blues, as expected, offer in the region of €110m.

The Champions League holders are yet to kickstart their summer recruitment drive with only third choice goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli having arrived so far on a free transfer from Fulham.

Marina Granovskai is expected, however, to broker a deal for Sevilla’s in-demand centre-half Jule Kounde, with Kurt Zouma set to depart amid interest from the likes of West Ham.

Tammy Abraham, meanwhile, is attracting interest from Arsenal and Aston Villa and his departure is expected to pave the way for Lukaku’s potential arrival.
