It has certainly been a busy few days for the Argentine superstar, with Barcelona having released a statement revealing that he was not set to continue with the club. Messi and Barcelona have been in dispute for weeks over a new deal, with his previous contract at the Camp Nou expiring at the back end of the 2020/21 season. An agreement has failed to be reached and the six-time Ballon d'Or winner now looks highly likely to be donning a different shirt next season.

It is not the first time that he has been linked with a move away, however, having also made a very public decree last summer over being unhappy with the way the Catalan giants were being run. That has taken one step closer to reality, with Messi being linked with moves to Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea. Make sure you keep the blog open throughout the morning to find out the latest on his future.

PSG talks

It was then however revealed that talks had been held between Messi's representatives regarding a move to the Ligue 1 giants. A move appears to be accelerating pretty quickly and the Argentine could well reveal more about his next destiantion a little later on.

Chelsea declare interest Following the announcement,

there were then rumours flying around regarding the Argentine's potential destination - one of those possibly being Chelsea. According to reports, Blues owner Roman Abramovich had organised a meeting to explore the possibilty of bringing Messi to Stamford Bridge.

Barcelona statement Let's go back to where this all started. On Thursday night, Barcelona released a statement stating that Messi was set to leave the club after failing to agree a new deal.
It read: "Despite having reached an agreement between FC Barcelona and Leo Messi and with the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, it cannot be formalised due to economic and structural obstacles (Spanish La Liga regulations) .

"Given this situation, Lionel Messi will not continue linked to FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of both the player and the Club cannot finally be fulfilled."
