Romelu Lukaku has recommended Inter Milan pair Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar to the London club’s hierarchy, according to reports in Italy.

The Blues wanted to add a new defender to the German manager’s squad this summer and pushed hard to land Jules Kounde from Sevilla. However, the UCL holders were unable to reach a deal with Sevilla after the La Liga club raised their asking price in the closing stages of the transfer window.

The Blues believed they had a verbal agreement with the Spanish club over the fee, but the La Liga side upped that figure by €15m. The Blues stay in the market for a new defender and are now considering Inter Milan duo pair Bastoni and Skriniar.

The report claims that the Blues’ decision comes following a recommendation from Romelu Lukaku, who played with them both at San Siro. Italy international would represent the more inexperienced option for the Blues as the 22-year- old centre-back is only in his third campaign with the Nerazzurri.

A deal for Alessandro would also be tricky for the Blues as the Italian defender signed a three-year deal extension with the Nerazzurri in May, which keeps him tied to the club until the summer of 2024.

Milan Skriniar, meanwhile, has been linked with a move to the PL for several years following his impressive displays for the Nerazzurri. Skriniar will have just a year remaining on his current deal with Inter Milan at the end of the campaign, which would reduce the asking price for the Blues if he fails to agree on a new contract.
