The London giants are in the market for a new defender. After failing with a late summer swoop for Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde, Chelsea have now set their sights on quite a few alternatives, and one of the options could be Bayern Munich centre-back Niklas Sule.

The 26-year-old defender is facing an unknown future at Allianz Arena, as his current deal expires at the end of the campaign. Niklas has appeared quite calm about his future, but the defender will be aware of his precarious situation in the Bavarians back-line.

Indeed, Bayern Munich have quite a few talented options at the defence, including the French pair of Dayot Upamecano and Lucas Hernandez that has been doing really well recently. Not to mention, the Bundesliga giants have been linked with a swoop for the Blues’ very own Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer next summer.

Antonio has a deal with the Blues that expires at the end of the campaign. Rudiger has appeared reluctant to extend his contract amid interest from a host of top teams around Europe. In addition to him, Chelsea are also ready to lose out on the services of Thiago Silva, whose deal also expires next summer.

The potential arrival of the ex- Stuttgart defender should leave Niklas behind in the pecking order, meaning a move away from Bayern Munich could be the more logical choice for the footballer. The Blues, to that end, have established itself as one of the ideal destinations.
