Thomas Tuchel gives Mason Mount injury update ahead of Chelsea’s clash against Southampton

Mason Mount is fit and available for Chelsea ’s clash against Southampton on Saturday, Thomas Tuchel has confirmed. The influential midfielder missed last weekend’s loss to Manchester City due to a small knock, and also sat out the Champions League defeat against Juventus in midweek.

Mount was included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary, sparking hopes he will be back in action this weekend. And Tuchel revealed on Friday that the 22-year-old has indeed made a full recovery in time for this weekend’s Premier League matchup.

Mason is in the squad, Mason is back, it was not a long injury, was a minor injury, and we’re happy that he’s back.’ ‘Then it’s obvious a given he’s nominated and he’s happy to be nominated and will give everything to do his best for his England squad.’

On how much Chelsea missed Mount, Tuchel said: ‘We need to be careful. He had a rough time at Tottenham. ‘It is not time on single players. We of course miss Mason. ‘But we cannot start reducing our performances on looking at the players who are missing. ‘The whole team missed Kante and Mason, of course that’s why he plays. Reece James too? Yes of course. Pulisic? Of course we miss [his] sprints and intensity.

‘We have a squad and the duty, for me as a coach, to find solutions. It is possible to win games with Mason Mount and hopefully he knows how much I respect and love him and want him to be in the team. But if he’s injured we need to win games without him and it’s exactly the same with N’Golo, Pulisic and Reece James.
