Chelsea and Arsenal fans have clashed once more in the Mason Mount vs Emile Smith Rowe debate, with the Gunners faithful pointing to what their number 10 did on Thursday night against Manchester United in the Premier League.

The pair both contributed important goals for their respective sides as the Blues remained top of the table after picking up three points on the road against Watford before Smith Rowe netted for Arsenal at Old Trafford.

"He never does [disappoint]," Danny Murphy said of the Cobham graduate on Match of the Day. "He’s got that quality and that desire to keep getting in behind and keep getting into dangerous areas. "He’s missed a bit of game time recently with some dental issues but you know what you get from him. You get great technique, a great touch and a willingness to get into places that will score his goals.

"He pops up on the left, the right - no matter where he plays he is always a threat. When they needed somebody in a game where they were poor first-half - those moments in games, that is the difference between top teams. "They only need one or two chances. He very rarely makes the wrong decision."

Meanwhile, Smith-Rowe's somewhat controversial first-half goal that broke the deadlock against United was eventually cancelled out as the Red Devils managed to give Michael Carrick a brilliant leaving present with the 3-2 win.

There is no doubt that both players are in the best forms of their young careers to date with Chelsea's number 19 ranking within the top 20 for this year's Ballon d'Or awards. Smith Rowe, on the other hand, whilst not making this year's list, is certainly on his way to becoming part of that list if his current performances continue on the trajectory they are currently on.

But the comparison between the two players has popped up once again with Arsenal fans trying to get one up on their London counterparts by claiming their attacking midfielder is better than Chelsea's option. Once Smith Rowe's goal hit the back of the net in the 13th minute at Old Trafford, the two sets of supporters clashed once again on social media.

Here is the best of the reaction on Twitter.

Chelsea fans

@BenWoodford4: 'Smith Rowe scored how long till Mason Mount is trending.'
@amjvds: 'pls don’t tell me arsenal fans have already started comparing smith rowe to mount…'
@Mongareokiro1: 'Smith Rowe with his tired legs you want to compare him to Mason Mount. It's barely sixty minutes and he's off.'
@Wds_CFC: 'Mason Mount got a goal and assist yesterday. Smith Rowe is acc stat padding just to enter the Mason conversation.'
@adedejiwal1: 'Smith rowe hanging Mason mount pics on his wall.'

Arsenal fans

@AFCsmiles: 'incoming comparison between mount and smith rowe even though esr is clear.'
@aviv_lavi: 'So… Emile Smith Rowe has more Premier League goals this season (5) than Bruno Fernandes (4), Mason Mount (4) and Kevin De Bruyne (2).'
@hxppers_: 'smith rowe is levels ahead of mount man.'
@Alex_AFC14: 'Think mount is a good player but smith Rowe is the player where if the whole team is playing badly he will be the one to step up and produce magic on his own.'
@afcluthor: 'Smith Rowe >>>> Mason Mount forever.'

Man United fan @samP061 offered his seven-word opinion to the conversation: 'Mason mount is better than Smith Rowe.'
Liverpool fan @hamezmilnerinho stated her opinion: 'smith rowe is clear of mount btw.'
Finally, Man City fan @TLK17ii concluded the debate: 'Emile Smith Rowe is stupidly clear of Mason mount.'
