Ilkay Gundogan makes big N'Golo Kante claim ahead of Chelsea clash with Manchester City

Manchester City ace Ilkay Gundogan has named N'Golo Kante has his toughest midfield opponent ahead of Saturday's clash with Chelsea at the Etihad. Thomas Tuchel's side currently sit 10 points behind Pep Guardiola's outfit and the onus will be on the Blues to attack this weekend, with the clash arguably a must-win if they are to retain hopes of winning the Premier League title.

The last meeting between the two sides ended in a 1-0 victory for City at Stamford Bridge, a time when it was Chelsea setting the early pace in the title race. Now, City find themselves in the middle of an 11- game winning streak in the Premier League and are now have to be significant favourites to secure Guardiola his fourth top-flight title in England. Chelsea received a significant boost in midweek when midfielder Kante returned to training ahead of the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final with Spurs.

The Frenchman was outstanding against City as the Blues won their second Champions League title in Porto back in May and Tuchel will need his star man at his best on Saturday. City boast one of the best midfields in the Premier League with the likes of Fernandinho, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and Gundogan forming a formidable foe for any team. The latter of whom recently took part in a Twitter Q&A in which he was asked who has been his toughest midfield opponent.

"I would say N'Golo Kante," the German said. "He’s really strong, the amount of work that he puts into the game, it’s just unbelievable."

Manchester City versus Chelsea kicks off at 12:30 on Saturday and will be shown live on BT Sport 1. Elsewhere in the title race, Liverpool welcome Brentford to Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
