Mason Mount needs to start living up to Paul Scholes demand ahead of Chelsea's trip to Norwich

It has been somewhat of an up and down season for Chelsea's Mason Mount. The 23-year-old has played 23 times in the Premier League for the Blues - with 17 starts in the process, but his form has been criticised by some supporters.

Mount is yet to find the back of the net in the Premier League in 2022, with his last goal coming way back in December when Chelsea were held at home to Everton.

The England international revealed in January that he has changed his game somewhat in order for him to pick up better positions that would allow him to contribute more with goals and assists. Speaking to the club's official website , Mount said:

"This season over the last few [months] I've probably played a little bit higher than I'm used to - playing as a kind of forward 10, or sometimes a winger or a false nine. "So I've had to adapt a bit but that gives me more opportunity to get into the box and have the opportunities to score and create.

"So far this season that's been a big focus of mine, to improve that and to put pressure on myself to be someone who wants to go forward and step up and score goals and create assists. "That's definitely something that has improved over the time he [Thomas Tuchel] has been here."

However, despite a slight change in positions for Mount, goal scoring has not been a regular occurrence for the Chelsea academy product this term. There was a spell in December where Mount scored four goals in as many Premier League games, but he has not found the back of the net since.

Going into Thursday evening's clash away at bottom-of-the-table Norwich City, though, could prove to be a confidence-booster for Mount. The England midfielder bagged a superb hat-trick against the Canaries in the reverse fixture back in October and will be hoping to produce a similar showing at Carrow Road as he looks to get his season back on track.

In doing so, he can also answer Paul Scholes ' demand for Mount to start scoring more goals. Speaking on Sky Sports’ Overlap channel , Scholes said:

"He needs to start scoring goals. I think he's a great player. "He's got to start winning games, almost in the mould that Frank Lampard did. I see him as that type of player but Frank produced all the time and won games for his team. Mason Mount has to start doing that."

There are so many positive attributes to Mount's all-round game and it feels as if he could be a Chelsea captain in the making, but he can elevate himself to the next level by producing a better return in front of goal.
