Prospective owner Todd Boehly has told Chelsea to begin their transfer plans as soon as his prospective takeover is complete, if recent reports are to be believed. It comes ahead of a potentially huge summer for Thomas Tuchel, who could look to revamp his playing squad.

The end of the takeover saga would be a relief to supporters, as the club nears its third month of uncertainty. The light at the end of the tunnel appears to be in sight though, as the Boehly- Clearlake bid was named preferred bidder and is waiting on government approval before it can go through.

This will lift restrictions placed by the sporting licence they currently operate under, allowing for focus to turn swiftly onto plans for the summer. Discussing transfer ideas, Tuchel said:

“We have clear ideas how to improve, how to freshen the squad, improve the squad, bring new energy and quality.

“Would not be the first transfer window where you have a wish and cannot make it as a coach. We will find solutions but first of all we must adapt to the general situation. Then we see if it is possible and what is possible.”

And it seems as though the German coach will have little time to waste as, according to the Evening Standard, Boehly has given the all-clear to let transfer plans start as soon as the takeover is complete. Tuchel has plenty of work to do too, with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen set to leave the club as free agents.

The report claims that the German coach wants to add two centre-backs to replace them, while additions to the midfield and the attack are desired as well as cover for the wing-back positions. It could allow for the Blues to make plans once again to close the gap on leaders Manchester City and Liverpool in the league.

It remains to be seen exactly how much business the club can and will do this summer, but it may be necessary for Tuchel in his plans to improve the side for next season.
