Todd Boehly has been handed his first transfer mission as new Chelsea owner ahead of the summer. The LA Dodgers co-owner, who has agreed a £4.25billion deal to buy the west London club, is expected to 'push for A-list signings' to mark a new era at Stamford Bridge, according to the MailOnline .

The American billionaire is seemingly keen to bolster Thomas Tuchel's armoury, with several star-studded players already linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

Jules Kounde, Declan Rice and Josko Gvardiol have each been rumoured to be of interest to the Blues, though Boehly has been told he must first sign a new striker.

Romelu Lukaku has struggled to acclimatise to the Premier League upon his return to Chelsea in the summer from Inter Milan. The 28-year-old has found the net just 15 times in 43 appearances this season and his overriding misfortune in front of goal has often seen him relegated to the bench.

While the Belgium international has worked his way back into Tuchel's plans of late, doubt continues to be casted over his future having failed to help the Blues narrow the gap with Manchester City and Liverpool.

Glen Johnson believes that a high-firing talisman is all that separates the west Londoners from the Premier League's runaway title contenders.

"There is a big gap at the moment but that’s not speaking negative of Chelsea," the former Blues defender said, speaking on behalf of 888sport . "There is a big gap between Man City and Liverpool and everyone else."

"They've got a very good squad but they’ve been a bit unlucky with Lukaku not firing. You can’t win the league and compete with those two teams if you’re not scoring goals. To close the gap, they need a new striker or get one they already have firing.”

In the meantime, Chelsea have been linked with a move for Robert Lewandowski . But, it's believed that the Belgian's future must be resolved first in order for the Blues to acquire the Bayern Munich striker, according to the Guardian . Lukaku is currently worth around £59m, according to CIES Football Observatory.

The report claims that the Tuchel's side 'could join the race' to sign Lewandowski , despite the Poland international favouring a summer move to Barcelona.

The striker sees his contract with Bayern expire at the end of next season, casting doubt over his future in Germany. Glen Johnson, was speaking on behalf of 888sport . Head to 888sport for the latest Premier League odds.
